GUEST LECTURER: THE HONORABLE LINDA J. SINGER, ACTING ATTORNEY GENERAL, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

Appointed by mayor Adrian Fenty, Acting Attorney General Linda Singer brings to the District of Columbia an extensive record of public service and a commitment to social justice.

Prior to being named as Acting Attorney General, Ms. Singer served for13 years as the Executive Director of Appleseed, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a just society. As its first full-time staff member, Ms. Singer oversaw the growth of Appleseed to a staff of more than 70, a budget over $7.5 million, and 18 offices nationwide.

Prior to joining Appleseed, Ms. Singer was a staff attorney in the Criminal Defese Division of the Legal Aid Society in New York City, Where she handled thousands of cases in trial court—including several felony cases in which she lodged a 100% acquittal record.

Singer has served as aboard member of chair of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation in New York, which provides funding for grassroots organizations working to advance environmental justice and reproductive health care. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Family Economic Self Sufficient program of Wider Opportunities for Women and is an advocate for local school reform issues.

Ms. Singer graduated magna cum laude from Harvard law School in 1991 and Harvard College in 1988. She has been a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar since 2007 and the New York Bar since 1992.

Ms. Singer and her husband Joseph have two children.
